Our Mission
We at Curated Learning Services aim to provide resources for parents that support children along their math journey. We work from the lens of understanding that what learners bring to the conversation matters, and the belief that if you can think, you can do math.
My name is Elizabeth and most people know me as Liz. Learning and growing bring me so much joy! But learning and growing with others brings me the greatest joy! As a former student-athlete and now a parent, coach and teacher, I found that connecting with other athletes, students, teachers, and my students’ parents was an important part of the learning process. These connections are where thriving happens.
My most recent work is as a volunteer math support at my children’s elementary school and part of my professional work as a math coach in several local middle and high school districts. To make it official, I completed the coursework to earn my Supplementary Authorization in Teaching Introductory Mathematics. Much of my work however, puts me in the classroom, working alongside teachers and students. And regardless of the grade level, the conversation around the impact of families rises to the top. I often find myself asking, “What can I do better to support students?” This website is part of my answer. I hope that parents can use this website as a place to find resources that can help you support your child along their math journey!

My first official job in education was an instructional aide in the morning and a cross country and track & field coach in the afternoon. It was here that I experienced the disparity between two very different populations who occupied the same school campus. As an aide in the classroom for at-risk youth (under 16 years old), I found that connecting with students’ parents on the good days was more fruitful than one phone call on the first bad day. Equally important was connecting with the families who were very involved in their childrens’ athletics. The experiences were vastly different, but I learned quickly that all parents want their children to thrive. Some families just have more resources available to them (time, energy, money, etc.). Over the years, I worked with parents and local communities to bring the resources in for those who needed them, and I always worked to connect the families to the work being done in the classroom or on the field.
My work in and out of the classroom set the foundation for parent workshops that I developed or co-developed with colleagues. My work with the San Jose Area Writing Project (SJAWP) and Family Engagement Institute (FEI) at Foothill College have reinforced my desire to support students through family connections.

Math is creative, cooking, talking, playful, sharing, connecting people and ideas, connecting to the world around us.
